President Barzani Receives Patriarch of Ancient Church of the East

Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met today with Mar Addai II, the Catholicos Patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East to discuss issues facing the Christian community in Iraq and in the Kurdistan Region.
Patriarch Mar Addai thanked President Barzani and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for providing shelter and assistance to Christians fleeing violence from other parts of Iraq. He said this is all due to religious tolerance, security and stability prevalent in the Kurdistan Region under President Barzaniās leadership. He also thanked the President for his consistent vocal support for the Christian community and specifically for the assistance provided to the victims of a recent terrorist attack on Christian students in Ninawa which killed one and wounded dozens more.
Thousands of Christian families have fled violence and intimidation in other parts of Iraq and have sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region in recent years.
President Barzani reiterated his strong support to the Christian community and added that here in the Kurdistan Region our people are proud of our traditions of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence of different religious and ethnic communities.
