President Barzani, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Feltman Discuss Political Developments in Iraq

Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani discussed recent political developments in Iraq in a meeting today with Jeffery Feltman, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.

President Barzani and Ambassador Feltman exchanged views on ongoing efforts by all the various political parties in Iraq to form the next government, as well as issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Feltman, who worked in Iraq and in Kurdistan in 2003 and 2004, praised the economic boom and development that has since taken place in the Kurdistan Region and expressed his hope that the Kurdistan Region success in providing security and stability and economic development can be used as a model for the rest of Iraq.

After giving an overview of the political developments since the election in March, the President reiterated his belief that all political sides must be work together to form an inclusive government as soon as possible and that no sides should be excluded from the political process.

On efforts to reduce tensions between the Kurdish block and the al-Hadba list in the province of Ninawa, Ambassador Feltman commended the positive developments that have recently been made for the inclusion of the Kurdish block in the running of this province at the provincial level.
