Prime Minister Salih meets US Vice President Biden in Baghdad
Baghdad, Iraq (KRG.org) – Prime Minister Barham Salih on Sunday met US Vice President Joseph Biden in Baghdad to discuss the latest political developments in Iraq and ways to strengthen US-Kurdistan Region relations. The meeting was attended by Christopher Hill, US Ambassador to Iraq, Assistant US Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman, and Muhammad Ihsan, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Representative in Baghdad.
“Vice President Biden and I recalled his earlier visits to Kurdistan and the changes that have taken place since then,” said Prime Minister Salih. ”He is a good friend and as usual we had a direct, frank exchange.”
They discussed the formation of the new government and the recent Iraqi elections, which they agreed were a success and an accurate reflection of the will of the people. It was stressed that all new political developments should take place in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.
They also discussed US-Kurdistan Region relations within the context of the wider US-Iraq strategic relationship. Prime Minister Salih said that the US can play a big role in the reconstruction and development of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
