Welcome from the KRG Representative to the United States

Welcome to the website of the Office of the Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) in the United States of America.

On behalf of Prime Minister Barham Salih and President Masoud Barzani, I thank you for taking this opportunity to learn more about the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the services and resources that are available through the Washington Office.

For almost two decades—since the Kurdistan Region was first liberated by American forces during “Operation Provide Comfort” in 1991—the KRG has been working to build its government, infrastructure, economy and social institutions to become a positive, contributing member of the global community. To this end, the people of the Kurdistan Region are doing their part help the country of Iraq along its path towards increased stability, security and democracy, in accordance with our federal constitution.

As we continue to progress, we are reassured by the commitment of the United States government to a long-term, strategic relationship with Iraq and the KRG. And we in the Kurdistan Region remain thankful for the sacrifices made by the U.S. to liberate Iraq. We are further proud of the fact that no American has been killed or injured in the Kurdistan Region in almost 20 years. This fact stands as a testament to the friendship that exists between Kurds and Americans, as well as to the shared values that exist between us.

The mission of our Office in Washington is to represent the government of Kurdistan and to further Kurdistan’s political, economic, and cultural interests by educating and strengthening our relationship with the US government, the US Congress, other governmental and non governmental institutions, the media, the US business community and the American people as well as serving the needs of the Kurdish community in the United States.

Thank you again for visiting our website, which I hope you will come back to time and again to receive news and information about the Kurdistan Region and our partnership with the United States.

Sincerely,

Qubad J. Talabani
Kurdistan Regional Government Representative to the United States
